Are We Tired of Hatches, Yet?

In a valiant effort to keep debris out of our living space, Stan draped plastic in the salon while he chipped away removing the old hatch frame.

Two more hatches to install. The two Lewmars arrived in the mail and Stan's busily preparing to install them. The hard part is keeping the boat functional and livable while under major construction. After removing the hatches and framing, he reinstalled them so we could attend our own picture day.

Stan organized picture day to encourage folks to sail their boats. A bonus was to come home to lots of pictures taken of their boats, burned onto CDs. SolMate acted as press boat. We anchored just off one of the oil islands, Island Freeman, inside the eastern-most breakwall, in a spot where the boats could come at us on any point of sail.

This was Gale's first ride. Winds were great for sailing, 12 to 18, but just a bit excessive for a sensitive feline stomach. He threw up twice and then settled into the rocking. Wind waves were 1 to 2 feet with the occasional wake in the 3 foot range. The roughest part of the trip for him was anchoring, as we settled back on the rode and swung beam to the swell. Rocking side to side makes the toughest stomach queasy, and Gale's was no exception.
